Community Grant Helps The Princess Project Support Local Mums

This morning, Sheerness Town Council Officer Becci Duffus visited The Princess Project Mum’s Hub in Sheerness to see first hand how the organisation has been supporting local families following a £500 award from Sheerness Town Council’s Community Grant Scheme.
Becci met with Helene Spocchia, Mum’s Community Support Worker, who explained how the Hub has been supporting mums in our community since 2023. Based at The Salvation Army on Sheerness High Street, the Hub meets every Tuesday during term time from 10am to 12pm.
The sessions provide a welcoming and relaxed space where mums can enjoy a hot drink, meet other local parents, and access support from a friendly team of staff and volunteers. Families with young children are very welcome, with toys, activities, baby changing facilities and space for feeding available, but the focus is very much on supporting mums themselves. Women are welcome to attend whether they bring their children or not.
As well as offering a listening ear and a supportive environment, the team can help signpost mums to other organisations and specialist services if they need additional support.
The Princess Project also offers a range of other services for local families, including parenting and wellbeing courses designed to build confidence and resilience, the Mum2Mum Befriending service which matches mums with trained volunteer befrienders for one to one support, and TotCycle, a scheme that provides free pre loved baby and toddler essentials to families who need them.
During the visit, Becci spoke with several mums who said they attend every week, have built lasting friendships through the group, and really look forward to coming along. Helene explained that the Town Council’s grant has helped cover the cost of hiring the venue, as well as providing refreshments and equipment for the sessions.
It was wonderful to see the positive difference this group is making to families in Sheerness. Thank you to Helene, the fantastic team of staff and volunteers, and all of the mums and children who made Becci feel so welcome during her visit.
