Bartons Point Bridge

Finally, after a long-anticipated wait, we have had confirmation from Swale Borough Council will be replacing the bridge at Bartons Point, this is amazing news.
The provision of a new bridge has been developed to the point where the appointed contractor, Beaver Bridges, is well advanced with the manufacture of the new bridge, and preparatory site works will begin on 24th June 2021.

To facilitate the commencement of works, barriers, posts and bins at the entrances to the site and at the location of the new bridge are being removed prior to the 24th of June and these will be reinstated when the contract is complete.

There is also the temporary closure of a public footpath that runs from Nursery Close to Marine Parade; this is being arranged with our colleagues at KCC who deal with Rights of Way and notices of the closure will be placed in position early next week. This closure is in the interests of public safety whilst construction activities are taking place.

The delivery of the bridge will take place over two days, the 19th and 20th July. During this time, parking restrictions will be in place for Seager Road and Beckley Road, where the bridge will be maneuvered to the entrance of the site via a mobile crane from Marine Parade. KCC Highways are also assisting us with arranging traffic management on Marine Parade, which will be necessary over the two-day period.

Residents have been sent letters advising of the proposed activities and are being sent follow-up letters early next week with more detail. This includes information regarding free temporary parking at nearby locations that will be available during the delivery period.

The contractor will complete and hand over the works, notwithstanding delays, on 26th July 2021, when the bridge will once again provide a much-needed facility to access the coastal park.
